P or A: The words of Isaiah call us to enact justice as we proclaim the word of theLord against the oppression of our neighbours. On this day of repentance, graciousGod, we confess our many sins, and ask for courage to live justly. We pray inJesus' name, and respond, "Amen."

A: We are guilty of many transgressions toward you and our neighbours. We havenot loved you with our whole heart. We have treated our neighbours unjustly byharbouring resentments and practicing discrimination. Accept this, our humblesacrifice of repentance. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: Living in a nation of great wealth, it is easy to forget the hunger and want of ourbrothers and sisters in poorer places, and even to ignore those neighbours among uswho are in need. Encourage us to share our wealth that we may help level theinequalities of this world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: As you call us to act justly and live lives of service, keep us humble in ouractivities. Remind us that to sound a trumpet before our works is to receive only thefinite gift of human praise. Help us to work quietly, that we might enjoy heavenlyrewards. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We lift up the names of the sick and the dying before you now: __________. Bewith them in their time of darkness. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

A: As we enter our Lenten journey, we remember the road of suffering traveled byyour Son. A: In our Lenten journey we reflect on our sin while walking toward new hope. Weneed the strength of God's outstretched arm to guide us through this holy season,and so we offer our concerns and petitions to God, praying in Jesus' name, andresponding, "Amen."

A: In the wilderness, our Lord was tempted by the devil to forsake the truth for a lie. When we are so tempted, give us the strength of Jesus to answer the tempter withbold faith in your truth. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: Hearing the story of Israel's entry into a land flowing with milk, honey, life, andabundance, we think with sadness of the many threats to your creation that ourlifestyles have caused. Open our eyes to our guilt in the destruction of theenvironment, and move our hearts and hands to work in this world with lovingstewardship. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We pray for people displaced by war, famine, and persecution. CompassionateGod, be for these people a fortress and refuge, and encourage our peaceful nation toextend good will to our distressed neighbours. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We were numbered among the multitude of stars shown to Abraham, and blessedby being living witnesses of your promise to create a heavenly family. Give us thefaith of your servant Abraham, so that we too may believe the unbelievable that youpromise, especially the promise of life from death. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: Help us to follow the message of your gospel. Strengthen us to resist settlinginto comfortable patterns of living, and encourage us instead to reach out to theworld in ministries of healing, teaching, and serving. In Jesus' name we pray.Amen.

A: Enable this congregation to stand firm in your word, with hearts focused uponfulfilling your will. P or A: We praise God's name, for he is gracious and merciful, and will not test usbeyond what we can bear. We commend our prayers to our merciful God, prayingin Jesus' name, and responding, "Amen."

A: We are instructed by your word to forsake wicked ways and to trust in yourmercy, for you are a God who will pardon abundantly. Draw your church torepentance and freedom from the human greed and ambition which lead your peopleto labour for that which does not satisfy. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We reach out to the world by preaching your gospel and serving our brothers andsisters. As we do so, strengthen our words and deeds with the gift of humility. Encourage and direct us so that we do not in arrogance put your faithfulness to thetest. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: Help us to abandon notions of self-righteousness in relationships with family,friends, and co-workers. Remind us that each human story is sacred, and that ourown stories are also coloured by the fallenness common to all humankind. In Jesus'name we pray. Amen.

A: For all who suffer illness or face death, we pray to you, O God. Strengthen us tolend our prayers and open arms to support and comfort them. We think especiallyof __________ . In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We, your church in Christ, are a new creation. Enable all Christians to be trueambassadors for Christ, leading our communities with love, justice, and integritythat may be a model for the communities of the world. In Jesus' name we pray.Amen.

A: Your Son ate with sinners and outcasts, showing them the love that their brothersand sisters had denied them. Inspire us to live as did your Son, by sharing our livesand love with those who have known the disgrace of gossip, stigma, or cruelty. InJesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We pray for the sick and the dying in our midst, especially __________ and allthose whom we name in our hearts. Deliver them from their suffering with yourcomforting hand. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

P or A: Mary, a faithful follower of Christ, gave richly of herself in anointing thefeet of Jesus out of love for him. Like Mary, inspire us to dedicate our lives to you. May the prayers that we lift to the Lord reflect this sincere devotion, praying inJesus' name, and responding, "Amen."

A: You have washed away our old lives of sin in the waters of baptism. We praiseyou, O God, for freeing us and making us new and holy in Christ Jesus. That wemay know and walk in baptismal grace each day of our lives, in Jesus' name wepray. Amen.

A: Your Son taught us that the poor would always be with us to serve and assist. May our church outreach and social programmes, community food banks, andshelters heed the challenge of extending assistance and friendship to those in need ofhope. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

A: We pray for this congregation, that our relationships would be governed by love,grace and forgiveness. Free us from our inclination to keep score of good deedsdone and wrongs committed. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
